Gardens

Haifa

April, 2001: In spring, gardens around Haifa (especially at the magnificant Baha'i Temple) are all abloom.

In early April, 2001, Marthame and his family visited Haifa, and took some pictures of the beautiful gardens busy blooming.

Almost a dyed look.

Subtleties of blue, pink, purple.

The Baha'i Temple in particular has wonderful gardens--no suprise to us after living blocks away from North America's Baha'i Temple in Wilmette, Illinois.

The variety of colors and types of flowers is impressive.

Hardier plants abound, too.

Jerusalem

January and April, 2001: Each time we visit, there are beautiful flowers at the Russian Convent of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

Full bloom!

The gardens here are well-tended.

Buds waiting to open.

Nablus

Fall, 2000: Abuna Dominick's green thumb keeps at work at the convent in Nablus.

Nazareth

We've made a few trips to the Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, and we've enjoyed the gardens every time.

The Church of the Annunciation marks the presumed home of Mary, where the Roman Catholics believe Gabriel gave her the big news.

They have very nice gardens there.

They also have murals from around the world showing Mary with the infant Jesus.

The Greek Orthodox believe Mary was approached by Gabriel as she was getting water from a well. Their Mary's Well church (not pictured here) is also very beautiful, with sacred water flowing inside.
